Grateful Every Single Day

Happiness is found in the present moment. Rather than waiting for something to happen in order to be happy, it’s important to be thankful for what we already have. I wrote this in one of my earlier blog posts entitled, “Be Thankful, Be Happy.” That was over a year ago, and I’d like to revisit gratitude in this blog post.

For the past 6 months or so, every night before I go to bed, I would write 5 things I’m grateful for and put it in my gratitude jar. This habit (or ritual) has helped me to see that there is something to be grateful for every single day.

Grateful for Many Things

In general, I am thankful for how things work out. Just last week, there was a flow so to speak and I appreciated it.

The day before Easter, I was traveling to Atlanta from New York and my flight was delayed. I might have been annoyed had I been waiting at the airport, but I was notified about the delay before I left home. The extra time meant I didn’t have to rush to the airport, and it allowed me to get some work done. It was pouring outside, so I was grateful that my flight was only delayed and not canceled.

I was thankful that my friend invited me to stay at her place while I was in town. I didn’t have to spend money on a hotel or Airbnb and I got to stay in a spacious and quiet room in her lovely home.

Grateful for How Things Work Out

On Easter Sunday, my work laptop stopped booting up. At first, I was freaking out because I needed to get work done while I was traveling. Luckily (or coincidentally), since I was in town, I was able to go into the Atlanta office the next day and exchange the laptop for a working one. All my files were intact and got transferred to the new laptop. I was grateful it all worked out.

On Monday, I was running late for an appointment. When I called the people I was meeting, I found out they too were running late and we ended up arriving at our meeting place at the same time.

Then, on Tuesday, I flew to Cincinnati to visit my fiance. Though I didn’t get to choose my seat, I was assigned a seat in an exit row. I was thankful for the extra leg room.

I’m grateful for how these things worked out. In addition, I was able to see some of my friends while in Atlanta and then spend time with my fiancé in Cincinnati, giving me even more reasons to be thankful.
