Reconnect and Revitalize: My Atlanta Adventure

Reconnect and revitalize. That is what I did on my recent Atlanta adventure. I called Georgia my home for 10 years, and this was my first time back visiting friends since 2021. I reconnected with a few people and experienced the city in a way I hadn’t before.

Exploring on Two Wheels

Atlanta bike tour through tunnel

During one of my excursions, I explored the city on two wheels on the 2.5-hour “Fall in Love with Atlanta” bike tour. My little adventure riding on the roads and bike paths of Atlanta came with a neat history lesson and cool views. We visited historic sites like Martin Luther King, Jr.’s home and the Oakland Cemetery. We saw local hot spots, admired street art, visited in-town neighborhoods, and rode on the Beltline (no small feat — given my previous experience).

A Theme of Movement

I’m only now realizing the common theme of movement present in the activities I chose to do. My friend treated me to a special event called Chai Tea and Tai Chi. In addition to drinking chai tea, the class entailed mindful movement, breathwork, and lymphatic drainage techniques such as tapping that created a deeper sense of balance and calm. I’m glad to have shared such an enjoyable experience with my friend.

I also signed up for an intermediate roller skating class when I found out one of the skaters I follow on Instagram teaches lessons in Atlanta. At the RollerFit session, the other students and I worked on pivots. It was challenging and fun practicing pivots to music. Now to practice what I learned.

Catching Up with Friends

I loved all the things I got to do during my visit, but I was most excited to see my friends. It was great catching up with each of them. I met these special people through work, the gym, or Toastmasters. Each in-person meeting nourished me. Each interaction, hug, and deep conversation filled my cup. While we may not talk often, we have the type of relationship where we can pick up where we left off, and I’m grateful for their continued friendship.

On the last day of my stay, my husband, coming from his guys trip in Florida, met me in Georgia. We checked out an adult skating session at a local rink. Given the friendly crowd and good music, we would have stayed longer if not for our drive back home early the next day.

All in all, I had the best time on this much-needed trip. Reconnecting with friends and experiencing new adventures left me feeling renewed.
