It’s funny how easily we take everyday conveniences for granted… until one of them suddenly disappears. A garbage disposal, for example, isn’t something you think much about until it stops working.

A couple of weeks ago, our disposal finally gave out. Clogged and leaking, it took the entire kitchen down with it. The dishwasher was full of dirty dishes, and we couldn’t run it, or even use the sink, because everything was connected to the same mess.
Thankfully, we discovered the pool of water underneath the sink before it leaked into the apartments below. We cleaned it up, notified our landlord, and then waited because of course, it happened on a weekend. Two days later, the handyman arrived and confirmed the disposal was done for. The pipes were clogged with things the disposal didn’t break down. He replaced the unit, cleared the pipes, and we could finally do the dishes again.
In the meantime, we washed what we could in the bathroom sink. Cooking was out of the question, so we ate out to avoid creating even more dirty dishes. It’s eye-opening how quickly a broken appliance can disrupt your entire routine.
When everything was finally repaired, I felt relieved. The whole experience reminded me how easily I overlook everyday conveniences like running water, a working sink, and the simple ability to clean up after a meal. Having them restored brought back a sense of balance and a renewed feeling of gratitude.
