The Risk of Saving It for Last

Many of us have felt the disconnect between what we intend to do and what actually gets done. For me, this showed up in my morning routine.

For a long time, I saved stretching for the end of my morning schedule. I’d meditate, pray, and then if time allowed, I would stretch. The problem was that time often slipped away, leaving little room for it. Sometimes minor distractions got in the way; other times, practical tasks like lunch prep or unloading the dishwasher came first. (Granted, lunch prep could easily be done the night before.)

More often than not, I’d find myself rushing to get ready for work, skipping the very practice that helps me feel grounded and energized.

Eventually, I recognized the pattern: by putting stretching last, I was implying that it wasn’t a priority. And yet, it was important to me.

So I made a simple adjustment. Now, I stretch immediately after I meditate and pray. By moving it forward, I ensure it happens, and that small shift has made a big difference. I no longer run out of time for stretching, and I start my mornings feeling more aligned.

The Lesson

When we leave something for last, we risk it not happening at all. But when we put it first, or at least earlier, we give it the space it deserves. Prioritizing isn’t just about managing time; it’s about honoring what matters most.
